FAQ

  • Information on the Car Carrier
Can you load used vehicles/agricultural machinery/construction machinery?
Yes, we can also load used products. Please feel free to inquire here
Which ports are covered by your service?
Please refer to our service map. Even if your destination is not covered by our service routes, please feel free to inquire here. We may make a proposal taking advantage of our global service network.
What are the benefits of using a RORO (Roll-On, Roll-Off) vessel?
The cargo is loaded and unloaded by vehicle or using trailers, which is much easier than if it is done with a crane. A RORO vessel is like a giant parking garage so your products are protected from heavy rain and wind. We also provide high-quality transportation services to prevent cargo damage.
How many vehicles can you load on a RORO (Roll-On, Roll-Off) vessel?
It depends on the vessel size/vehicle type/vehicle size, but approximately 5,000 vehicles.
How do you prevent vehicles from moving during transportation?
We lash all cargo individually using lashing belts and crew members check the condition of the lashing belts regularly during voyage.
How many vessels are you operating?
We operate approximately 70 RORO (Roll-On, Roll-Off) vessels. Please see our “About us” page.
It seems that forms of transportation other than gasoline-powered cars are increasing. Can you carry them as well?
We have experience transporting EVs and FCVs in addition to gasoline-powered cars. We will continue to engage in transport in accordance with the ongoing diversification of fuels/engines, but a prior check may be required for some fueled cars, so please feel free to contact us for details.
  • Breakbulk/High & Heavy Cargo
Can you only load self-propelled products on a RORO (Roll-On, Roll-Off) vessel?
We can also transport non-self-propelled cargo by putting it on trailers or using forklifts. Please refer to our “HIGH & HEAVY / BREAK BULK” page.
How do you load high-height cargo?
Our RORO (Roll-On, Roll-Off) vessels are equipped with liftable decks which allow for the height of the decks to be changed. High-height cargo can be loaded by changing the deck height according to size of the cargo.
  • Hazardous Cargo
HIGH & HEAVY / BREAK BULK cargo may contain hazardous goods. Can you carry them as well?
Some ships can carry hazardous goods. Also, certain hazardous goods cannot be loaded, so please feel free to contact us for details.
  • Vessel Schedules
What is the frequency of your service routes?
Please refer to our service map. As one example, the frequency of the North Atlantic Service is weekly.
Will our products be carried to their destinations directly?
We may do transship cargo at a port on the way to the final destination for your cargo.
  • Cargo Tracking
How can I track our products after the departure of the vessel?
You can track your products by booking number, bill of lading number.
    Please search your shipment here.
  • Quotation
How can I receive a quotation for my shipment?
    Please send your request here.
  • Transport Documents
How can I get documents which are required by your ports?
The required documents for each port may differ. We recommend that you contact the port directly to acquire the necessary documents.
  • Bill of Lading
What is a Bill of Lading (B/L)?
A B/L is a document that establishes the terms of a contract between a shipper and a carrier under which freight is to be moved between specified points for a specified charge. It serves as a document of title, a contract of carriage, and a receipt for goods. This document is usually required in order for the buyer to take possession of the shipment. Bills of Lading may be negotiable or non-negotiable. Bills that are consigned "to order" of a named party may be transferred by endorsement and delivery in the same manner as a check.
Can I request to amend the Bill of Lading shipment date after the vessel sets sail?
You cannot amend the shipment date after sailing. It amounts to fraud if a Bill of Lading is issued with a false date by a person who is aware that the date is incorrect.
Can I have more than 3 original Bills of Lading?
Although 3 is the accepted industry standard, "K" Line can issue as many originals as you require as long as the face of the bill of lading bears the number of originals issued. (i.e., if you require 6 originals, then the originals must state that 6 were issued).
Can I use a Bill of Lading and a Sea Waybill for the same shipment?
We cannot issue a Bill of Lading and a Sea Waybill with the same B/L number for the same shipment.
What are the terms and conditions for transport?
The transport of your cargo is governed by the terms and conditions of the Bill of Lading or Sea Waybill issued for the shipment of your cargo.

For a complete presentation of the terms and conditions of the "K" Line Bill of Lading or the "K" Line Sea Waybill, please see "Bill of Lading Terms and Conditions" (https://www.kline.co.jp/en/bl.html)

Please be aware that both maritime law and the terms and conditions of the Bill of Lading or Sea Waybill limit "K" Line's liability for loss or damage to your cargo. Therefore, we strongly recommend our customers to have their cargo insured before the commencement of transport.
When can I access my Bill of Lading?
We recommend that you contact our regional office representative.
When should I send my master Bill of Lading/Shipping Instructions?
The cutoff date for each port may differ. We recommend that you contact our regional office representative.
