What is a Bill of Lading (B/L)?
A B/L is a document that establishes the terms of a contract between a shipper and a carrier under which freight is to be moved between specified points for a specified charge. It serves as a document of title, a contract of carriage, and a receipt for goods. This document is usually required in order for the buyer to take possession of the shipment. Bills of Lading may be negotiable or non-negotiable. Bills that are consigned "to order" of a named party may be transferred by endorsement and delivery in the same manner as a check.
Can I request to amend the Bill of Lading shipment date after the vessel sets sail?
You cannot amend the shipment date after sailing. It amounts to fraud if a Bill of Lading is issued with a false date by a person who is aware that the date is incorrect.
Can I have more than 3 original Bills of Lading?
Although 3 is the accepted industry standard, "K" Line can issue as many originals as you require as long as the face of the bill of lading bears the number of originals issued. (i.e., if you require 6 originals, then the originals must state that 6 were issued).
Can I use a Bill of Lading and a Sea Waybill for the same shipment?
We cannot issue a Bill of Lading and a Sea Waybill with the same B/L number for the same shipment.
What are the terms and conditions for transport?
The transport of your cargo is governed by the terms and conditions of the Bill of Lading or Sea Waybill issued for the shipment of your cargo.
For a complete presentation of the terms and conditions of the "K" Line Bill of Lading or the "K" Line Sea Waybill, please see "Bill of Lading Terms and Conditions"
Please be aware that both maritime law and the terms and conditions of the Bill of Lading or Sea Waybill limit "K" Line's liability for loss or damage to your cargo. Therefore, we strongly recommend our customers to have their cargo insured before the commencement of transport.
